Photos that sell

How to shoot them with your phone and how many to upload per product.

No video for this guide yet. The step by step is below.

Step by step

  1. 1

Find daylight. Stand near a window and turn the flash off: bulb light turns everything yellow, and then your customer complains the color was not that.

  2. 2

Use a plain background: a white wall, a cloth, the wooden table. Anything, as long as it does not compete with what you are selling.

  3. 3

The first one you upload is the cover, so make it the one showing the whole product, straight on.

It is the only one visible in the listing. If nobody can tell what it is there, nobody opens the rest.

  4. 4

Add two or three more from Add photo.

Include the detail people always ask about in messages: the stitching, the label, the size next to something for scale. Every photo that answers a question is one message you do not have to reply to.

  5. 5

Keep the same background and the same distance across your whole catalog. That is what makes a storefront look professional — more than the camera does.
